Effective Communication:
Is Your Message Worth Reading?
The subject line of your message allows the recipient to easily decide if your
message is worth reading. It also helps in finding important information in a
overfilled in-box. Write a meaningful subject line. If you reply to a message
and the topic changes, change the subject line to reflect the new topic.
When a brief response is required sometimes the subject line alone suffices.
To make the message even briefer you can include your telephone number in
your address.
Example:
From: Wayne
SUBJECT: AGREED; SEE YOU AT 5:00pm
WARNING: Some E-mail applications do not display the
entire contents
of a lengthy subject line, so you may want to copy the subject
line and paste it in the body of the message.
Consider writing a summary of the message in the first few lines of text,
since many E-mail programs provide a preview feature that displays the first
few lines of each message.
