Effective Communication:
Formatting for Corporate E- mail Systems
Unlike
Internet E-mail, the proprietary messaging systems used by most corporate
employees are feature- rich. Composing a message using Microsoft Exchange, Novell’s
GroupWise, and most of the other popular E-mail systems, is like using a word
processor.

Headings can be bold
Though I prefer to break separate topics into individual
messages, bold headings are an effective way to separate
different topics within your message.
- Bullets can be used to identify
important points.
- Detail can be included later
in the message.
- Paragraphs can be indented.
- Charts and graphs can be included.
Important words can be emphasized using italics or bold-face.
(See my note about my preference for using plain text in the
previous section).
