Effective Communication: Is E-mail Slower?

You might argue that E-mail is a slower method of communication than a long distance telephone call, but it doesn’t need to be. Often, the hours that we spend on the telephone are not as productive as we would like them to be. They are not as structured.

When you send an E-mail message you can think your thoughts through clearly, you can refine them, you can send off the message, you can get the response that you want back.

One of the advantages of E-mail is that it is not dependent on other people’s schedules. We don’t have to call at a certain time when we know that they will be there. An E-mail message can be sent at any time of day or night. The recipient can respond at their convenience.
