Effective Communication:
What about Connection Speeds?
Speed is
an issue, as is the cost of connection. Are you causing undue stress on your
corporate network if you send large attachments that could be distributed in other ways?
This may be true if you send the attachment to multiple recipients because many E-mail
systems send and store a separate copy for every person on your distribution list.
Some E-mail
systems use efficient store-once technology, meaning that the message
gets stored once and only a pointer to the attachment is placed in the recipients’ in-
boxes.
For a traveler,
long-distance costs can be expensive. To limit costs and usage, some
companies restrict the size of incoming messages. In any case, large attachments take
up excess storage space. It might be more effective to send everyone a notice that they
can find the information in a central location if they are interested.
